CoBills ("we," "our," or "the App") is a mobile application that helps households split bills, track expenses, and manage shared finances. Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and optional profile avatar.
Household Data: If you create or join a household, we store the household name, member list, and invite codes.
Financial Data: We store bills you create (title, amount, category, date, due date, payment status), how bills are split among household members, and monthly income information used to calculate income-based split ratios.
Device Information: We may collect your preferred language, timezone, and theme preference to personalize your experience.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the App's core features — bill splitting, debt tracking, and household management
- Calculate fair split ratios based on income when your household enables that feature
- Display monthly spending statistics and history
- Authenticate your identity and secure your account
- Save your preferences (language, theme, timezone)
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud-hosted PostgreSQL database with row-level security policies. Authentication tokens are stored on your device using secure, encrypted storage (Expo SecureStore).
We implement industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and database-level access controls.
4. Data Sharing
Within Your Household: Members of your household can see shared bills, split amounts, and aggregated income ratios. Individual income amounts are never shared — only the resulting split percentages.
Third Parties: We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data only:
- With service providers who help us operate the App (e.g., Supabase for data hosting)
- If required by law, legal process, or governmental request
- To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the App. When you delete your account:
- Your profile, bills, and income data are permanently removed
- If you are the last member of a household, the household is also deleted
- Shared bills that involve other household members will retain the bill record but remove your personal information
6. Your Choices
- Access and Update: You can view and update your personal information in the Personal Info section of the App
- Delete: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time
- Language: You can change the App language (English, Spanish, French) at any time
7. Children's Privacy
CoBills is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
